As Jani said, you have likely tried to remove the hydraulic (Lift All) unit to get at the lost bolt. That unit is very heavy and the drive connection to the transmission as well as the pipe connections and the control connection on the side has to be removed to get it out. It is held in by four 3/8 inch bolts. If you decide to remove it, make sure you have help and do not drop it on any of your body parts, as it weighs more than 100 lbs. I also, do not agree that the bolt will do no harm. I don't think there is room between the ring gear and the housing to clear a bolt of the size (1/2 inch??) that holds on the starter. It's gonna get wedged between and something will be damaged. I think the magnet suggestion is a good start. Beyond that, I don't see much option except to drop the lift all unit. I'll take a look at mine tomorrow and see if there is an inspection hole I've forgotten about.
