If the tractor has been stationary for a few days to a week, the water will collect in the area of the plug. It is better to get contaminated fluid out of the gear case, as stated below, however leaving the water in is worse by far than doing as you plan. Multi wt. oil is not a problem.

Up till then, this tractor had been running a corn grinder and pulling a trailer. It had new unfilled rear tires and no wheel weights.
