I think Scott is onto it.
When you crank the engine over, does it crank evenly, or does it
have a lope to it? Many times you can tell if there is a
compression problem by listening to it crank (if it doesn"t start
right away). Sometimes you can hear where the compression is
going too, ie out the exhaust or out the intake/air cleaner.
