826D Dipstick Length/Thermostat

Could somebody with an 826 give me a total
length measurement of the dipstick? Mine has
been broken and brazed back together by the
look of it and I think I've been overfilling the
crankcase. Also, is the thermostat just an
ordinary automotive type, or is it something
special? Mine is missing and I'm gong to
install one so it warms up and stays that way.
That D-358 is really smoky until it warms up
and I want it to warm up faster and stay warm.
