loren, i think that the wrenches were actually not painted at all. you can sandblast and varnish them or spray clear acrylic. the gas pliers are for several things but they get their name from tightening the nut under the glass sediment bowl. some have told me that these pliers are the reason that these knurled nuts have all the knurles rubbed off on many of them and that was all they were good for. russ
