I can offer you the same advice that was wisely offered me a month ago when I bought my first super A; order a Farmall/IH Operator's Manual for your "A". I got mine from Binder's. It contains a lot of information you will otherwise be regularly asking for on this forum. The manual states that a (super) A holds 5 qts. in the crankcase. Opinions vary as to viscosity; with some owners using 30 weight, others 40 weight, and most using a multi-viscosity, like 10w-40, or 20w-40. Depends on the weather where you live, and to a lessor extent, the condition of your engine. Hugh McKay, a regular contributor on here as well as a long-time owner and user of "A" series farmalls, feels that 5 quarts is slightly more than adequate. He prefers 4 qts. He also likes an extra quart of 90wt gear lube in his transmissions. He has more experience with these machines than I. Good luck. mike
