farmall C 1948

I was working on my tractor this weekend, WOW!! I got it up and
running, cleaned carb, new plugs, oil, gas and battery. It has not
run for about four years. I have a problem, I went to put it in
gear and no luck, all it did was grind. My dad told me to try
pushing down on the gear shift and clutch he said that some
models required that you push down on the gear shift? He also
said it could be the throw out bearing. I will be going back to my
property in two weeks does anyone have an idea of what it
might be??
