Anything is possible, but it sludge and crud are all that's keeping that motor from smoking and burning oil, you need a rebuild. Non-detergent oil is from the time before oil filters. The sludge would settle in the oil pan, or in a sludge trap i.e. Norton, BSA, Triumph, etc. The H only gets bypass filtration, but detergent oil will still help get the crud to the filter. Take the valve cover off (you need to adjust the valves anyway) and see what you have got. Looking in the oil pan is a little extra work, but you will know a lot more about the condition of the motor. Sludge will look like a heavy gray deposit everywhere the oil can pool.
