Cmore: Have a look at your PTO engage lever, there is a pin holds the lever in the engage shaft. I'm not sure the C housing is the shape to affect this. Last year while mowing with my SA, PTO stopped much the same as yours. The pin had come out of the lever allowing it to slip down through the engage shaft, where it contacted housing, thus not allowing it to go completely in gear. When PTO load increased it would pop out of gear. I suspect my lever had enough rust or paint that lever only gradually slipped down through engage shaft. Just something to check. I know when it happened to me, I was at a loss as to how this could happen without noise.
