Don't know anything about rye, Magman, but up untill the mid-60's we planted all our oats from an endgate seeder. This was a broadcaster fit into the tailgate of a wagon and pulled around the field while someone in the wagon scooped oat seed into the seeder. We didn't know what a drill was till we had to make a hole in something. Then we covered the seed with a 4-section drag harrow. Basically a set of teeth on crossbars that could be set straight up to bust up clods after plowing, and then layed down to just barely cover small seed. Don't know why it wouldn't still work. Harley
