Max: You'll notice the difference was very little after the days of cabs. I think before the days of cabs farmers liked the standard design that sheltered them from harsh prarrie winds. With smaller diameter and wider rear tires you also got a bit more drawbar hp.

I've talked with guys that actually worked both eastern as well as prarrie soils. They will tell you and I know this to be true 13x38 row crop will give you better traction than 14x30 or 34 in the softer eastern soils. I'm told this is not so on firmer prarrie soils.
