There are some replacement axles that are held in place with a snap ring.If you want to pull the axle it can be done with out taking off the top cover. All you have to do is pull the pto. And go in through the hole in the back of the case and pull out the 2 bolts or the snap ring off and the take the housing loose and pull the housing and the axle off.
