I worked at a case IH dealer and the way we allways checked is put it in a higher gear full throttle load the brakes with the t/a in high side then pull back to low side real quick. If t/a is good it will snap right into low. If it hesitates and grabs you will soon be putting one in. If you dont want to spend the money leave it in high and take the handle off. The low side is the wet side it wont slip in high as this is the gear side. hope this helps out
