Some point sets are lightly coated with oily rustproof coat, need to spray cleaner on point. I have used plain coleman camp stove fuel on brown paper bag to clean Bosch sets- work good. CRC electroclean on Lucas point set and wipe with card stock also worked. Old points sets can get a bit of oil film from engine- file/clean works then also, you seem to have gotten old set to work doing that.
