Jim, Great points from The Red as always!. you mentioned a mower comes with it so check for PTO shield, check for rust in the radiator, open either the top or bottom oil check ports on the side of the oil pan and look at the oil to make sure its not milky looking (after you've warmed the tractor up). Check the oil pressure gauge too. To check to see what year for sure the first serial number for 1949 was FBH 300676, 1950 was FBH 327975, and 1951 was FBH 351923. Overall thorough look and test drive in all gears can usually detect any major fault but there is always a chance that something will slip by ya. Good luck. FB
