Thats also one of those things I believed also. Most of the time what happens is the gas runs out of the tank and in to the oil then of course when you need to start the tracotr the tank is empty, so you put gas in the tank and it starts because it hasn't had time to fill the carb. Oh by the way I'm not saying your wrong either or that I'm right just a guess on my part that I have seen happen more then once.
