It's probably nothing to be too concerned about, when the tractor was new it would have been very quiet, but as the hours accumulated and the tractor got older things began to wear and now there is a whine. Without the benefit of being able to hear the noise myself I really can't tell you if it is serious or not. You can spend some really big dollars to get rid of the whine or just live with it. Depending on how the tractor will be used it could be many years before it gets bad enough that it has to fixed. As a precaution you may want to drain and replace the fluid in the trans/ rearend, and make sure it is full.
