A product that I have used to free stuck or sticky rings is Rislone Engine Oil Treatment. NAPA can get it for you (usually comes in a yellow container), just change the oil & add this stuff, then work the tractor for a few hours and I have yet to see it not fix or greatly reduce the oil usage & blue smoke. It"s a cheap ($11.00 Canadian) thing to try before getting into an engine job.
