Search this forum for Bob M.'s wiring diagrams. It is very simple to use a one wire type alternator. If it is still using the 6 volt coil, there should be a ballast resistor in the hot wire going to the coil (Borg Warner # RU4 or Echlin #ICR13). The 12 Volts will not hurt the strarter, just don't crank it for more than 30 seconds. I have a Super C and an M both on 12 volt with the original starters. If you want to convert back to 6 volt you will need a good 6 volt generator, a 6 or 8 volt battery and at least #0 battery cables, or bigger.
