I believe all the old letter series tractors were positive ground unless someone messed with them. Connecting it backwards is bad news. The positive post however is a little larger than the neg so you probably can tell by the cable fit if it is right. I suggest changing it to 12V negative ground and put an alternator on it like we all do on these 6V clunkers.
