I use the IH "Sliplate" or however it is spelled. It comes in a can and I use it on the bottom of my mowing decks after I clean them. Just did mine the other night. I would say it lasts about 1/2 a season or so, less in the high friction areas of the deck. I think it works pretty good. I would not say it hardens, rather it drys. Fast too. Other guys use it on the inside of snow throwers. Works good there too they say.
