Before the short there was no fuse protecting the panel, except for the light circuit, I believe. That is the way they originally wired it. The power came from the battery, to the solenoid, from that solenoid terminal to the ammeter, through the ammeter, then to the voltage regulator, then to the "Bat" terminal on the ignition switch. I installed a fuse right at the solenoid terminal feeding the ammeter. I first replaced the VR, started the tractor and did a little work, noticed the ammeter was not registering, and replaced it with another one I had. It registered correctly. Seems a flaw in their design. Thanks for your help.
