When my M acts up I take a little tester and start at the ignition switch and work to the sparkplugs. I make sure power is getting to the ignition switch, turn on the switch, make sure it's getting through the switch with it turned on, then I check the connections at the coil to make sure they are getting juice, and so forth. If I find juice is getting to one thing but can't get juice out of it, like juice getting to the coil but nothing coming out of it, I replace the part. The alternator doesn't play a part in getting spark. Meaning even if your alternator isn't working, with a good battery the tractor will turn over and start and run until the battery goes dead. So a no spark condition is something between the battery and the spark plugs. later, scruffy
