Yup, it's a puzzler. It sounds like the piston is hitting the head, but I removed the pre-cup and then removed the the brass sealing washer. Put the pre-cup back in with piston on TDC and there was still room between the two. As the pre-cup and the head are at the same level, this should rule out piston to head contact. Wrist pin bushing had minimal wear, and no way needed replacement. Since the tractor is used for runway cutting at our airport, and the guys won't let me near it to wrench it again, I have to wait until it blows up. Then I should be able to see what it was. Ron
