These cups get crud in the bottom and then a little water or moisture and you are set up for corrosion. Sometimes the pitting corrosion looks like someone drilled holes. I've had two A engines that had this problem. One was repaired by brazing, the other one with a cup from a salvage yard. If you get a used cup, make sure it has been cleaned up, as oil and grease can hide a hole. One of mine did not leak until I cleaned it up with a wire brush and degreaser. Mine had several holes in them before repair/replacement.
