Thanks for the tip. Went to a gasket distributer recommended by a hydraulic shop and he knew right away what the material was made from -- a vegetable based gasket, 15/1000th thick. Said they have been using this stuff since the 1800s. Stocks it just for this reason. He simply GAVE me a piece 12" by 36". Couldn't believe it. If you guys are familiar with Vellum paper, used in the old days for drafting --- that is what this stuff looks like. Everything is good again.
