Harold nailed it, Navstar is true remains of International Harvestor. It was the only profitable division in the company by the 1980s. My understanding as to why Case dropped the IH transmissions, their (IH) machine tools were shot and parts were being produced beyond tolerance. You either threw away 1/3 of your work or you used them and hoped it held togather. Case would have had to retool to produce the IH designs at an economical rate, instead they kept their own.
