Just to let you 140 fellows know. I have a 140 that was purchased as a pair. It is an industrial model ( what ever that means). My buddy has the other half of the pair. It was used for many years for floor and yard cleaning at a large plant. The tags are gone from both of the pair. As an aside, the fellow we bought them from had THREE 140's..including one with a mower under it. Mine was the worse of the bunch. It had a stuck valve and wouldn't run. In fact, there was so much wrong with it I would bet it hadn't run in many years (even though he said 2 weeks). I took the head to a local speed shop, and they did a recondition on the head, including hardened valve seats, and it looked beautiful.

The carb needed major unplugging in all the passages. It was really bad..the tractor wouldn't start.

Also, I wound up just yanking ALL of the wiring off and starting from square one. It had a 6 volt generator and 6 volt lights on it. I got rid of everything. It now has a 12 volt conversion (original electric starter). My next trick is to add lights. Right now I have to split the case because the starter has stripped the starter ring gear. It won't be a big job..I just have to get around to it.

I gotta tell you..it came with a front and back blade. The back blade is o.k., except it is rather loose in the fast hitch, and it is not level because it wobbles. The front blade is a factory part (so I'm told), but I had it installed, and as I was pushing a very little bit of dirt, it came back and pushed the radiator into the fan...a $200 hit. But at that time, I replaced all the radiator hoses (under $20 all new), so it wasn't a total loss, since they needed replacement anyway, and I got a good look at the thermostat.

Other than that, I am getting to know this baby REAL well these days, since I have had to play with everything. It seems that when somebody wants to sell you something, the truth has nothing to do with the negotiations. But I do love the old gal...

The one the other guy has always ran well, but he never told me how much he really had paid for it, since he bought the pair, and then sold me mine.

It is interesting that both tractors have a flat spot on the starter ring gear, and you have to twist the engine by hand a few degrees so the starter will engage.

Who has more fun than us..NO BODY..

I need another..will an "A" do it..??

Gee

Today's Featured Article - Gatherin of the Orange - by Rick Nikolich. In July of 1998 I was talking to fellow Allis Chalmers collector Mike Schilling about the annual "Gathering of The Orange" AC show coming up in August of 1999. He got this wild idea that we should get a convoy of AC tractors and drive them from Charlotte, Michigan 105 miles to LaGrange, Indiana. ... [Read Article]
