I have a 706 with the 282 and I've heard all sorts of bad things. about them. I bought the tractor at an auction for 3,200 dollars. It has a wide front and came with new tires. This is not a bad price, but concidering the money I've put in it's a expensive tractor now. I did some engine work on it and I don't have a hard time starting it. People need to check timing usually the static time is off. have good glow plugs, batteries and a good starter, and plug her in when it gets cold. I also have a 560 gas with a 263 I really like this tractor. I just got done overhauling the engie in it and now I'am fixing the hydraulics. The 263 in the 560 or the early 706 was a good engine they like their gas, but are a responsive engine and smooth running. My neighbor has a 706 gas and she'll drink a good 4 gallon an hour when pulling hard, not anny different for my 560. I guess all I can say is how much will you use the tractor If not a lot or if it will do a lot of ideling then I'd use a gas But If you want to do a lot a field work a diesel is more practicle. I have no experience with the 310 german, but I heard they run good. I 706 can range any where for 2500 to 5000 all depending on the condition of the tractor. A wide front, narrow front, diesel or gas. I hope I have helped.
