While on the subject of recalls and such...here's a trivia quiz for you..... What is the only case in history of a manufacturer buying back a vehicle and destroying all of them (under the urging of the US Gov't of course)?? The late 80s Nissan Van. With dozens of electrical problems that couldnt be fixed (despite numerous recalls),and hundreds of vehicle fires that totally destroyed the vans,Nissan had no choice but to pay wholesale market value and crush every one.(well,at least the ones that did get turned back in). It cleared them of future litigation. GM Saturn division had a similar problem with the first few thousand SLs when they were introduced.Quaker State supplied the anti freeze/coolant and admitted to GM that there was no corrosion inhibitor in it.GM re took possesion of them, scrapped half and serviced the other half and handed them out to Saturn dealers as executive/salesman cars. They voided the warranty on them all.
