Shouldn't need to be repolerized, Check the regulator mounting and make sure it is tight and grounded to shiney metal. The regulator if like mine (a Lucas) will have to be removed to take the cover off. They are sealed with metal fingers around the base and are a PITA, be carefull and it should come apart easy. The wires look permanent on first inspection but plug in the bottem seperately, don't get them mixed up and you should be fine.
