When I rebuilt the power steering on my 300U, I used the Case/IH rattle can paint to repaint the gas tank, dash and p/s unit. I was concerned about resistance to gasoline and oil, and sure enough, when I put gas in the tank, the few dribbles that got on the paint wrinkled the paint. But after it cured for a couple months it seemed to be impervious to gasoline.

As for primer, I used rattle-can automotive primer from an auto parts store. I used light gray, because the red seems brighter that way, but if you use red oxide primer, any scratches in the color coats won't show near as much.
