This thread has given me a couple of chuckles, particularly Paul in Mich."s description of the proper "mounting procedure"! I started driving our A at 7, and had to climb the back drawbar, as the front was out of reach. My grandfather bought it new in 1942, and he could still get on it into his late 70"s with two crutches and two hip replacements! He did build a small step below the pedals and mount from the front, but even after growing up, I"ve still get on it from the rear using Paul"s basic method. When I bought my "45 A, it came with a cobbled-up front step similar to Gramp"s, and that seems to work, though I"m thinking of removing it as it"s uglier than a hedge fence. Long legs are a definite advange, but it"s worth the aggrevation to be able to set in the seat of one of the best tractors ever made!
