Dont quote me here, but I think it was either HOT ROD,or Popular Hot Rodding magazine that did that informal testing. They had it rated as: Champion the softest,AC next harder and Autolite the hardest. This would mean potentially the longest life without massive gap change favoring the Autolites. This explains why they arent plated yet every Champion IS.Its because without the plating, the Champions would just rust away to nothing,or else rust into the threads so bad you cant unscrew them.NGK also plates every one,but I have no idea as to their construction.I do know that the NGK Iridium plugs are supposibly longer lasting than regular platinum jobs. In my experience,I have run about every brand but Nippondenso in my various items over the years, and have experienced bad Champions,NGKs,ACs and Autolites.Believe it or not,SplitFires seem to work very well. However,SplitFires are made by Autolite and the only difference is the welded on ground electrode...so,I dont know why I have seen an endurance difference.Unfortunately,SplitFires are not available for every engine, only popular cars and lawn mower engines.
