Ronald i know for a fact IH used casting codes on tractors. For example on my SMTA you will see 2-14-z 2 is the month 14 is the day z is the year. Z is 1954, Y is 1953, A is 1955 and so on.
Other equipment i don't know but would bet they did use codes.
