int 340d hard to steer

friend of mine bought a int 340 diesel with manual steering. it is pretty hard to steer. i tried adding gear oil to the steering box but it leaked out. so i pumped quite a bit of grease into it. are there any adjustments that i can try to make.also there is a lot of play in the steering wheel.whats a fellar to do.
