300 hydraulic problem

My 300 seems to have lost most of its
hydraulic fluid after a long day of putting fence
posts in. There are no external leaks and the
pump works fine when when tanked up. I
assume it has a leak into the engine via the
timing gear? If so, is it a major problem to fix ,
and will it leak less if the pump is not used so
hard? Thanks in advance!
