Well, I told my dad all of your comments and when all was said and done he found a manual that said to do it a completely different way :). The manual had a picture of the cylinders and labelled them 1-6 front to back like Allan said, but where it was different was it then placed those cylinder numbers on a diagram of the distributor which had the numbers arranged properly based on the distributor position ??. I think doing it the other way as you all suggested made more sense as it was actually stamped on the cylinders (nevermind them being completely covered in grease), but this was a good visual tool for him to check the cables. He found the 2 that were in the wrong place and the 560 is humming along nicely once again. Thank you all for your quick help. I learned the infamous 15 too young 36 too old 24 just right rule, which not only made me smile, but will also help me when I work on my JEEP with an inline 6. Thanks again!
