JB2 - thanks for your comments and help - Your explanation doesn`t quite go with how my 484 seems to be. (looking from the rear) The filler cap of the fuel tank is on the left while the electrics for the fuel gauge are on the right - there is a spin on type fuel filter on the right side of the engine and another on the left just before the injector pump - this one is a water separator type. I lve in New Zealand which might explain differences - I think it is a 1980 model
