The Hitachi #14231 alternator is the smallest one that I have been able to find. NAPA part #2138130 cost $49.95 plus core. It was used on a 1978-79 Nissan 620 pickup and a 1980 Nissan 720 pickup both with a 2 liter engine. It is 4 1/2" in Dia and 7" in length. I use it all the time and don't have to cut any hoods. Hope this helps
