I bought a starter for my Farmall A from 'dbelectrical' on ebay. It is a brand new Delco Remy starter... paid around $100 for it. It kicks over nicely. The problems I am having is that the return spring doesn't seem strong enough, and every once in a while you can hear the teeth making contact with the running engine. I have also had the starter lock up tight to the motor before and not release without rolling the engine backwards... though this may be in my setup--though I don't know how one would adjust it on this style starter. As for the tooth chatter, the old one never seemed to do it however the corners of the bendix were all chewed off so maybe it did in the past... that is what lead to its problems (not meshing) that I replaced it for. For the price, I'm sure not complaining. Mine is a working tractor/forklift so if it makes a little extra noise I don't care, as long as it lasts a few years... Unless someone has a solution to my problem? ;)
