Not familiar with the hybrids that are planted in Canada. But, most people that plant during cooler April temperatures--the Texas Panhandle up to your area, plant too early. Many people plant early to get the corn to tassel, silk, and pollinate in "cooler" weather, before the typical hot mid-summer temperatures occur, ie to avoid stress -- but cold weather is stressful too, and results in lower yields. IMO, more so than the normal hot conditions. I have done replicated planting date studies that show that. Early May beat early April every year in my studies.
