Just my opinion but a head gasket should be put on dry.The gasket goop will be squeezed out by the high torque put on it.However the aluminum paint trick is recommended in some early service manuals [before various sealers were even made maybe] and Ive used that also without problem.A slight coat of it will allow the gasket to seat a little better.I avoid anything "goop like"Like I said just my opinion Im sure lots of goops are on many motors without leaks.
