Mark I currently run a 706 with the german diesel in it. I'm not looking for an argument by any means but I would have to say that tractor is by no means hard to get started in the winter time. At least for me it hasn't. I would highly recommend the diesel for two reasons. Reason 1: Longer life. The one I run now has over 7000 original hours on it and has never had the valve cover off. NOt so sure about the pump but I really don't remember dad talking about anything ever being done to the engine. The TA or Tranny shift mechanisms...........Another story that we are NOT going to get into yet. Reason 2: Now if I heard dad correctly and he read correctly.........According to the red power magazine there was only one year that IHC released the diesel in the 706 and that was the only year that they made the 706. Please correct me if I'm wrong but I'm sure that's what pop said. Anyways..........If you want something that's going to end up as a restoration project this one would be definitely more valuable. My .02 Rich
