knock in engine 300 utility HELP??

Well my worst nightmare is realized!A knock noise sounds like a rod started this morning after about 20 minutes working,oil pressure is good everything works ok but still a steady knock,I wonder could it be carbon on pistons let loose or should I just start tearing it down and check it out?? any ideas really appreciated Thanks Bob,,,
