El Toro is right; the main bearings can be replaced with the crank in place. You can make a little tool from a nail or a cotter key that fits in one of the oil holes in the crank; then gently rotate the crank until the head of the tool contacts the old bearing and keep on turning until the bearing is pressed out. You have to turn in the direction away from the notch in the bearing. Also I loosened all of the main caps first, then removed one at a time, R&R'ed the bearing, reinstalled the cap loosely, and moved on to the next one. It is a fairly easy job, or at least mine was. It's a good time to check your oil pump out, too; mine had the gasket blown out and the bottom plate was warped. After fixing that and with the new bearings, it has much better oil pressure. Good luck, Bill
