RRgoat - You might try poking around in the drain opening with a broom handle, piece of wood dowel or similar. Could there's a chuck of congealed sludge that had been floating top of the water is now on the bottom and is preventing the tranny from draining all the way. It amazes me some of the "stuff" I've drained out of old tractor transmissions! Yet the transmissions somehow were not damaged - other than seals becoming leaky after refilling with fresh gear oil.
