There are two types of 12 Volt coils. One type will be marked "use with external resistor". If you purchase this type, there must already be a ballast resistor in the ignition circuit on the tractor, or you must install one that matches the coil.

If you purchase the other type, NO resistor is needed in the ignition circuit, and you need to verify that non is installed, or the spark will be weak from the new coil due to it's operating on reduced voltage.
