Had the same problem with the in-line filter I put on my H. I solved the problem with a filter with a third hose connection coming out the side of the filter. I use a FRAM G3499. I run a small hose from this outlet up around the bracket that holds the temp. and oil gauges and back down just a little. I held the hose in place with some silicone calking. The hose will not be visible there. That puts the hose above the gas tank so gas will not run out of the hose when the tank is full of gas. This way the filter will fill up full and it will not vapor lock for you. It has worked great for me. Good Luck!
