I have solder them with a large soldering iron.
I just drained all the gas from the tank and sanded the area where the leak is until the metal is nice and shiny. I applied flux and then heated
the spot with the soldering iron and let the solder flow out over the hole.

Do not use an open flame or any smoking while doing this.

We have a local radiator shop that will repair
gas tanks and they do not steam clean them. They blow air through the tank and then use a torch.
I left before they started on mine. The place has been in business over 60 years. I have seen postings on here on relining these old gas tanks, not sure where it's available. Hal
